1st Live Gig In 2 Years!

I’ve been playing with the band Venice for over 20 years now.  Always one of my all-time favorite bands and every time I’ve worked with them, it’s been such a great musical experience.  Not only great musicians and songwriters, they’re all just hilarious!

Since the start of the pandemic in early 2020, I’d not done any live gigs and just last week - the night before Thanksgiving, I did my first live gig in almost 2 years - definitely a record for me.  I’m hearing the same story a lot from my colleagues.  We all seem to be finally gettin’ back to work, some way or another.

I’ve done this acoustic show with Venice many times but it’d been so long, I had some brushing up to do on some of the old songs and had to learn some new ones too.   The club we played in Venice, California is called The Venice West…the former location for a club called Witzend and this was our first appearance at the newly renovated venue.  Great venue - we loved it and sold it out.  What a fun night and I’m so glad to be back playing with them.

Here’s a little video promo from the evening.   Hope ya’ll dig it!  For all you ‘drum-heads’ out there, my little hybrid setup for this show was a Gon Bops Pedal Cajon (Alex Acuna  series cajon with a pedal mounted inside - cable triggering the pedal), Gon Bops Red mounted tambourine mounted w/pedal for my left foot, Gon Bops Rock and Drum Shakers, Paiste 10” Sound Formula Mini Hats,  11” Traditional Splash and Innovative Percussion custom Mini Bundlz (thanks Chris Long!)

Here’s to a much better 2022 and hoping that we’re getting closer to the end of this thing that’s changed so many of our lives.
